BuzzFeed

Wanting more? Check my byline.

BuzzFeed is a self-starter setting, despite being an industry leader in creative advertising and affiliate marketing. Writers own every step of the content creation process, including concepts, headlines, product research, image sourcing, copy, thumbnails, and packaging for social distribution. It’s a Renaissance-(hu)man approach that I thrive in, having grown from writer to editor in just three years. At each new level, I am tasked with maintaining my status as a high-performing producer while participating in high-level strategy and guiding the editorial improvement of junior writers.

Innovation

Fresh Verticals

No one thought “low waste” posts would ever be more than a pet project, but I knew better. For months, I churned out experimental iterations in my free time, eventually finding consistent revenue generation while introducing readers to a host of woman-owned small businesses!

I wasn’t the first BuzzFeed shopping writer to feature shoes, but I was the first to crack the code for consistently developing shoe content that earns in the 99th percentile.

Monetizing video game content has significant marketplace challenges. Despite that, I have spearheaded a collection of gaming posts with significant long-tail earnings that continue to attract sponsorships.

Team Toolkits

Improving Inclusivity

To improve our service to readers, editors collaborated on revising fashion best practices to require a specific ratio of truly plus-size inclusions. As a part of this initiative, we developed a resource of suitable brands and established a workflow for continuous updates.

Creativity needs collaboration, and I have become adept at running remote brainstorming activities that generate innovative headlines and experimental ideas. I am comfortable taking the lead, confidently presenting new material, and guiding work sessions to productively engage team members at a range of levels.

Better Together

Search Engine Optimization

On-Page

  • Every voicey BuzzFeed headline is converted into a search-friendly moniker abiding by best practices like character count.

  • Writers are responsible for identifying appropriate keywords and creating unique, optimized URLs for every piece.

  • BuzzFeed’s picture-heavy content mandates accurate and descriptive alt text that improves accessibility and boosts rankings.

Off-Page

Each month, I research and execute search assignments that generate ongoing monthly revenue for the team. This includes monitoring trends and keyword research to determine strategic opportunities.

Brand Partnerships

All shopping content must balance brand continuity and conversions to succeed. Doing this well is of even greater importance when retailers pay to utilize our team’s content expertise through sponsored posts. Always using outlined business objectives as a guiding light, I’ve demonstrated my ability to create buzz-worthy pieces that delight partners and our readers, even when constrained by strict legal guidelines.
